A Hispanic Heritage Experience Based On The Legend of Porfirio Rubirosa – The Latino James Bond
“I’m everything you say I am … and I’ll tell you why you should get involved … I can take you on a ride that you’ll never forget.” – Porfirio Rubirosa
Miami, Florida – September 13th, 2017 – PORFIRO RUBIROSA is the Latin Diplomat/Playboy known in the 50s as “The Best Dressed Man” according to TIME Magazine. Rubirosa’s fame was also linked to the heiresses of vast American fortunes and the richest women in the world, Doris Duke and Barbara Hutton. He was also the inspiration for the character “James Bond”
“We are talking about the archetype that gave birth to the International-Latin-Lover look and lifestyle. A mix of relaxed “Caribbean cabana boy” meets “Sophisticated-French-Monsieur”. Back in the 50s there were many elegant men with character, hanging out in the upper spheres of the International Café Society …. but there was only one Rubirosa. A guy with a list of hobbies, titles and tabloid covers, the likes of which many amazing stories and myths have stemmed through the centuries and continue ‘till today. He is still unique, trendy and current. And now a recent anthropological study, show that Rubirosa was the inspiration for James Bond. We’ve known this since we discovered his FBI files and published our book over 15 years ago,” said authors Isabella Wall and Marty Wall.
As Hispanic Heritage Month is upon us (September 15th to October 15th) America puts all things Hispanic on the front burner. There is no shortage of Latin-spectacles and events grounded on accurate cultural traditions, childhood legends and stories about historical figures that maintain relevance. Porfirio Rubirosa is one such figure and “Fashionista, Diplomat, Playboy” is one such cultural spectacle.
“We expect a full house. This event is a much-needed celebration after what the city has gone through with hurricane Irma. Proceeds from the auction of a dinner date with a “modern day Rubirosa Gentleman” among other luxury items, will benefit and promote the work of CASA VALENTINA, a 501(c3) organization that provides affordable housing, comprehensive wraparound services and transitioning program for foster youth in Miami, Florida. It’s going to be EPIC!” – Said Sandra Ward, CEO of Catwalk Pros.
“Our Cinematic Fashion show is a multi-media, multi-sensory experience that will include images, sounds, rhythm, fashion, flavors and more to highlight the life and style of the “Latino James Bond” during the celebration of all things Hispanic. The event is based on the book CHASING RUBI (Persiguiendo a Rubirosa) the acclaimed biography that is the first one published in English about Rubirosa. The story is based on his memoirs and his thousand page declassified FBI files, where Rubirosa is depicted more as a secret agent than a Diplomat.” – Concluded Ward
Later, the fashion show will be a sexy and diverse display of style and elegance, re-enacting different historic moments of the legendary Playboy. It will be a “50’s glamour” themed celebration featuring the Lifestyle associated with Rubirosa. Latin-flavors, fashion, travel, luxury exhibitors and the Jetset of the Miami scene are some of the features of the event. It will highlight Rubirosa’s polo playing, car raising and the powerful women who exercised their influence, fortunes and power to be in his company. Ron Barceló sponsors the VIP after party. Entertainment by international salsa recording star, Willie Panama.
